Take it Like A Girl

Take it Like A Girl

I have been meaning to do this entry for a few days now and after seeing last night's Super Bowl commercial "like a Girl" I knew I had to get it done.

Criticism… This is a good thing ladies! I have learned from my mistakes and grown so much when I learned to take criticism regardless of how hard it was to hear. I am not saying to let people put down your work or ideas  in a rude or aggressive manner, I am saying be open to other's options no matter how wrong they may seem at the time.

This advice can be used in ALL aspect of your lives. Relationships, jobs, and hobbies.

So how do you take his valuable information in like a girl and come out stronger?

If criticism is given in an appropriate manner , meaning you are not being attacked or purposely put down, tell the person that you appreciate their feedback and will take it into consideration. THAT"S IT! Also ladies, try this method if the person is being rather…. rude. You may find that killing them with kindness works much better than you think.

I understand it is hard to hear anything negative about something you are so passionate about. The majority of us  want to instantly defend  why they did something and why their work is the way it is. This is ok BUT it will not help you grow or become better and it will do more harm than good in the long run.

After hearing feedback there are  few things you should keep in mind.

1. That it is just one person's opinion! If you love you work that is great! Just because you received feedback does not make your work any less amazing.

2. When you go home that night write down all the feedback you received ( do this all the time preferably in a journal so you can keep it in mind)

3. Process the feedback. Think what would happen if I tried this? What can I benefit from this? How can I incorporate his into my work?

4. Remind yourself why you love doing whatever it is that you are doing and how amazing you are at it! Even the best of the best receive criticism, but guess what… I bet they take it in stride and continue to grow. If not I can guarantee hey will not be at the top for long.

5. If needed grab a glass of wine and draw yourself a bubble bath!

I hope some of you were able to gain some insight on this. I promise you your life will change in so many ways once you learn not to take criticism as an attack on you as a person. I know it can be extremely challenging at times and a glass of wine or two may be needed for processing, but that's how you build character right?
